Mental Health

Mental HealthThe title of this blog post looks like it could be a typo…. it could have read Dental Health. Perhaps someday I will use this format to tell you more about teeth. Until then….

This undoubtedly has been one of the most challenging years we have faced as a nation. I feel fortunate that my staff and I have been able to care for each of you in a safe and healthy environment for the last ten months. The smiles I am afforded to see and the laughter I hear as I move about our dental office brings me much joy. I am able to experience and feel some level of normalcy and love.

This past weekend, I had to be out running errands, something I try very hard to avoid and I was reminded why. The macabre feel and somber look on individuals while out running for exercise or while getting groceries for my family made me sad for how we are treating one another. I understand the stress and anxiety over COVID but this does not mean we need to be unkind or avoid eye contact.

I would challenge you, and myself, when in public and wearing a mask, look at people, SMILE WITH YOUR EYES. You never know how that small gesture could lift someone’s spirit, brighten their day. We need this right now! Mental health is equally as important as our physical health. Take the time to care for yourself mentally and try to do this for others too.

Thank you for helping me try to make a positive impact on those around us.

With joy in my heart,
Jessica
