Vizilite Plus Oral Cancer Screening

Every hour of every day, in the United States, one American dies of oral cancer. This deadly disease is the sixth leading cause of cancer deaths in America with no significant improvement in the survival rate in the past 40 years.

If discovered in its early stages, oral cancer is 90 percent curable, but less than 50 percent curable if discovered in its later stages. To help increase survivability, Dr. Bishop, offers her patients the benefits of ViziLite, the only FDA-cleared technology for screening of oral abnormalities in patients at increased risk for oral cancer. ViziLite, marketed by Zila Pharmaceuticals, a division of Zila, Inc. (Nasdaq: ZILA), is a medical breakthrough that helps professionals detect oral abnormalities that could be early indicators of cancer.

ViziLite is an easy, painless and non-invasive examination that more and more dentists are incorporating into their annual oral health wellness exam. The exam is a three-step process and takes only a few minutes. First, the patient rinses with a raspberry-tasting solution to prepare for the exam after which the dentist snaps the ViziLite lightstick, activating it so that it glows. The dentist then places the lightstick in a retractor and shines it in the patient’s mouth while examining the oral tissue for abnormalities

CEREC™ Dentistry
The CEREC ™ system was introduced by Siemen's in 1985 to provide patients with a high quality esthetic ceramic restoration in one visit. The technology uses CAD-CIM (computer assisted design - computer integrated manufactoring) equipment to allow Dr. Bishop to provide her patients with durable tooth-colored restorations.

The CEREC™ computer permits one appointment ceramic inlays, onlays and crowns. Without the usual wait for a laboratory technician to fabricate the needed restoration, Dr. Bishop can rebuild teeth with CEREC™ and often avoid the need for crowns.

Whitening
Whitening is a safe and effective procedure our office provides. We use Opalescence® products and offer a one hour bleaching process in addition to the more traditional method of wearing custom fit bleaching trays. We recommend that an exam and diagnosis be performed prior to tooth-whitening.

Dr. Bishop would be happy to discuss the different methods for whitening and the pros and cons associated with the procedures.

Veneers
Not all people can obtain a Hollywood smile with a simple whitening process. A procedure known as porcelain veneers can be performed to close spaces between teeth, straighten slightly misaligned teeth and create an attractive white smile. Patients unsure if the process would be right for them can have a model of their teeth made to demonstrate the final product before commencing treatment.

Implants, Bridges and Partials
Several options are available for patients who are missing one or more teeth. Dr. Bishop offers implants, bridges and partials to patients who wish to correct spaces between their teeth.

Implants are the latest improvement for patients who have lost one or more teeth. An implant is a titanium screw placed in the jaw- bone and after healing a porcelain or gold crown is made to fit the space. The crown is supported by the implant.

Bridges are another procedure offered to replace missing teeth.

Partials are also offered when an implant or a bridge is not a viable option.

Crowns
There are instances when a tooth may fracture or have too much existing filling material to be able to support another filling. In this situation a porcelain or gold crown may be necessary to restore the tooth to proper form and function.
