Insurance FAQs

Are you in network with my dental insurance?
As a courtesy to our patients, we file to all insurance companies. We are not ‘in network’ with a specific company. What this means: We will will file to your company, but you may be reimbursed less than going to an ‘in network’ dentist.

Why is Dr. Bishop not ‘in network’ with my insurance company?
It is very important to Dr. Bishop to maintain the patient/doctor relationship. When functioning ‘in network’, a dentist is controlled by the insurance company and patient care can be compromised.

Why are Dr. Bishop’s fees higher then my insurance companies UCR?
UCR is a generic insurance term that stands for ‘Usual & Customary Rates’. This acronym is a misnomer because insurance companies do not investigate or inquire about fees from dentists. This is a fee schedule specific to each individual insurance company and UCR fees can differ drastically based on the plan level purchased by an employer. What this means is that the UCR for XYZ Insurance company may be $600 for a crown, but the UCR for ABC Insurance company may be $975 for the same crown performed by the same dentist.
