Beware of flavored creamers and milk in your coffee and teas!

February 20th, 2013 by Jessica Bishop

Who doesn’t love a great, warm cup of coffee or tea? Your boring cup of joe can transform itself almost immediately with the addition of one of the new deliciously flavored creamers, milk or sugar. However, these additions can be very harmful to your teeth. In the past, we attributed interproximal decay or cavities that occur between teeth from a lack of flossing. Recent studies show that is not always the case. Sipping sugary or sweetened beverages over a long period of time can heighten the risk of interproximal decay. We urge you to drink your coffee or tea plain and limit the amount of drinking time if you must add a sweetener. Brushing after consumption is always a recommendation!

Parking

February 14th, 2013 by Jessica Bishop

Reserved ParkingIsn’t parking always an issue in the great town of Chapel Hill? We have welcomed with open arms our neighbors across the way- UNC Medical. However, we have had to deal with a lot of parking issues- the main one being that there isn’t any! Some of you have already given us a visit in the last couple weeks and have noticed white painting on many of the spots stating “Reserved for 6015″…great news, that is OUR building! So feel free to park in any of those spaces during your visit with us.

Dental Disease in Children

September 4th, 2012 by Jessica Bishop

Hard to believe another Labor Day weekend has come and gone, kids are back in school, and the weather (hopefully!) is starting to cool down a bit.

Did you know that dental disease is the most common chronic childhood disease? Dental disease is 5 times more common than asthma- across the nation. Dental disease can affect your child’s ability to speak properly, chew comfortably, get a good nights rest and can also hinder their performance in school. In fact, an estimated 156 million school hours are missed due to dental disease each year as reported by the Oral Health Advocacy Taskforce.

Chapel Hill Rose Award – Best Dentist Category

We wanted to give a big THANK YOU to our Chapel Hill patients that voted for us to be the winner of the Best Dentist Category in the recent Chapel Hill News Rose Awards. This was truly a surprise to us and we feel very honored (and lucky to have you all as patients)!

Chapel Hill Magazine – Top Dentist

Recently, we were recognized in the May/June issue of Chapel Hill Magazine as a Top Dentist. This national award is given to those offices that are recommended by local medical and dental providers. The question asked: “If you had a patient in need of a dentist, which dentist would you refer them to?” And guess what, we made the cut! We were thrilled to be nominated. Check out our snazzy new plaque the next time you come to visit!

Failure to Floss Cuts Life Expectency

May 9th, 2012 by Jessica Bishop

Listen to your dental hygienist when she tells you to floss on a regular basis. Recent statistics show those with periodontal (gum) disease are nearly twice as likely to have heart disease as those with healthy gums. Research has determined a direct correlation between artery damaging inflammation and the bacteria that triggers gum disease. Nearly 50 percent of Americans have gum disease that goes unnoticed in its early stages because it is painless at onset.
